Before and After care instructions for Dermal filler

3 Days before

  • Avoid the following on the treatment area; exfoliating agents such as Retin-A, acids, toners or any skin irritating products.

  • Do not pluck, tweeze or wax the treatment area

  • Avoid Vitamins E, A, Gingko Biloba, and St. John’s Wort.

  • Avoid taking over the counter blood thinning medications such as Aspirin, Advil, Motrin, Naproxen, Excederin (most over the counter pain relievers) Tylenol is ok. If you have been prescribed a blood thinner by your physician please do not discontinue without consulting them.

24 hours before

  • No Alcohol 24 hours before

  • Please fill out the online intake form prior to your appointment!

Day of appointment

  • Do not wear make-up to your appointment.

After Care

24 Hours following treatment

  • Do not wear make-up (if you absolutely have to wear mineral make-up)

  • Stay upright for the first 4 hours following treatment

  • Avoid rigorous exercise for 24 hours

  • Avoid extreme heat - direct sun, tanning beds, steam room, sauna, hot tub, hot yoga

  • Avoid Vitamins E, A, Gingko Biloba, St. John’s Wort

  • Avoid taking over the counter blood thinning medications such as Aspirin, Advil, Motrin, Naproxen, Excederin (most over the counter pain relievers) Tylenol is ok. If you have been prescribed a blood thinner by your physician please do not discontinue without consulting them.

  • Avoid alcohol

  • Do not fly

  • If you are experiencing pain Tylenol can be taken

  • Ice the area 15 minutes every hour for pain management and to reduce bruising and swelling.

  • Call the registered nurse if you have any concerns. Number will be provided at the time of appointment.

  • For LIPS- avoid mouth actions such as sucking a straw, smoking, kissing, biting into apples for 24 hours. Apply vaseline to the lips for the first 24 hours to keep them hydrated.

2 weeks after the appointment

  • Do not have any other aesthetic treatments for at least one week - preferably 2-3 weeks after treatment

  • Book a follow up in 2 weeks to review your results with the registered nurse.

3 Days before

After Care

24 Hours following treatment

  • For the first hour following treatment move the facial muscles treated (frown, raise brows..)

  • Do not wear make-up (if you absolutely have to wear mineral make-up) for 4 hours after injections.

  • Stay upright for the first 4 hours following treatment

  • Do not massage the area treated or have any other aesthetic treatments to the area for at least 2 weeks.

  • Avoid rigorous exercise for 24 hours

  • Avoid extreme heat - direct sun, tanning beds, steam room, sauna, hot tub, hot yoga

2 weeks following treatment

  • The full effect of treatment will be apparent at 2 weeks. A 2 week follow up appointment is recommended, especially if this is your first neuromodulator treatment with us.

Before and after care for Belkyra

3 Days before

  • Avoid the following on the treatment area; exfoliating agents such as Retin-A, acids, toners or any skin irritating products.

  • Do not pluck, tweeze or wax the treatment area. If you need to shave the treatment area do so the day before treatment.

  • Avoid Vitamins E, A, Gingko Biloba, and St. John’s Wort.

  • Avoid taking over the counter blood thinning medications such as Aspirin, Advil, Motrin, Naproxen, Excederin (most over the counter pain relievers) Tylenol is ok. If you have been prescribed a blood thinner by your physician please do not discontinue without consulting them.

After Care

  • It is common to experience swelling and redness. You may also experience bruising, itching, numbness and induration. This commonly lasts 5-14 days.

  • You can ice the area after treatment. Do not apply ice directly to skin, wrap in a towel. Ice the area 20 minutes per hour, put the ice on for 15 seconds and off for 15 seconds. There is a risk of frostbite to the area if ice is applied for too long or directly on the skin.

  • Avoid strenuous activities for 3 days.

  • Sleep with your head elevated for the first week post treatment

  • Do not scratch, pick or massage the treatment area.

  • Contact the office if you have any symptoms that are concerning to you.

  • Book a follow up appointment at one month.
